Import Modes

Direct import vs staging import, when to use each, and their workflows.

Direct Import

Items are immediately added to your live inventory:

  • Best for: Trusted data sources, verified imports, bulk inventory additions
  • Process: CSV → Map columns → Preview → Import → Live inventory
  • Speed: Fastest - no review step required
  • Risk: Higher - errors immediately affect live inventory
  • Use when: You've verified your CSV data and are confident in accuracy

Staging Import

Items are imported into staging for review before going live:

  • Best for: New imports, untrusted sources, bulk updates needing verification
  • Process: CSV → Map columns → Preview → Import → Staging → Review → Approve → Live inventory
  • Speed: Slower - requires review step
  • Risk: Lower - errors can be caught before going live
  • Use when: You want to verify data before it affects live inventory
  • Features: Bulk approve/reject, edit staging items, bulk repricing
